This year， the University of Hong Kong expected to enroll 300 mainland students but it received 10，362 applications from mainland students， representing an increase of 14.8 percent over the previous year.
However， only 300 mainland students will be able to study at the University， which means one winner for every 34 applicants in 2011.
This year， the Hong Kong Baptist University has seen applicant numbers increase by 14 percent as has the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The Hong Kong institute of education has witnessed an even large increase by percentage， with an increase of 16.3 percent.
