Ⅰ.city的意思是“城市、都市”，一般指大的和重要的城市(但在美國，每一個(gè)城市都可以稱為city)。如：

　　① Shanghai is a big city. 上海是一個(gè)大城市。

　　② Beijing is one of the oldest cities in the world. 北京是世界上最古老的城市之一。

　　Ⅱ.town的意思是“市鎮(zhèn)、城市”，一般指規(guī)模較小的城市，常作country(鄉(xiāng)下)的相對用語。如：

　　① The town is on the bank of a river. 那個(gè)城市位于河邊。

　　② Whould you rather live in a town or in the country?你喜歡住在城市還是農(nóng)村?
