Ⅰ. discover “發現”發現的事物是本來存在的或是有人知道的。如：

　　① Columbus discovered America. 哥倫布發現了美洲。

　　② He discovered a box hidden under the floor. 他發現了一只藏在地板下箱子。

　　Ⅱ. invent “發明”， 發明的東西是從前沒有的。如：

　　① Who invented the steam engine?誰發明了蒸汽機?

　　② He has invented a new way of making silk. 他發明了一種造絲的新方法。

　　Ⅲ. find “找到”指尋找的結果。是非延續性動詞。如：

　　I am looking for my bike, but I may not find it. 我正在找我的自行車，可是不一定能找到。

　　Ⅳ. find out “找出、查明”指經過觀察、調查把某事、某物查出來，搞清楚，弄明白。如：

　　When he was a child, he liked to find out how things worked. 他孩提時代時，就愛弄明白各種事物的來龍去脈。
