B[2024·山東卷] Longview has its squirrel bridge. The bridge, which has attracted international attention, is now a local landmark.

The Nutty Narrows Bridge was built in 1963 by a local builder, Amos Peters, to give squirrels a way to cross the busy road without getting flattened by passing cars.

The original bridge was built over Olympia Way on the west edge of the library grounds. Before the bridge was built, squirrels had to avoid traffic to and from the Park Plaza office building where office staff put out a nutty feast for the squirrels. Many times,

Peters and others who worked in and near Park Plaza witnessed squirrels being run over.

One day Peters found a dead squirrel with a nut still in its mouth, and that day's coffee break discussion turned into squirrel safety. The group of businessmen cooked up the squirrel bridge idea and formed a committee to ask the blessing of the City Council(市政會). The Council approved, and Councilwoman Bess LaRiviere jokingly named the bridge “Nutty Narrows”.

After architects designed the bridge, Amos Peters and Bill Hutch started construction. They built the 60-foot bridge from aluminum and lengths of fire hose(消防水帶). It cost $1,000.young and teaching_them_the_ropes. The story was picked up by the media, and Nutty Narrows became known in newspapers all over the world.

Peters died in 1984, and a ten-foot wooden squirrel sculpture was placed near the bridge in memory of its builder and his devotion to the project.

題干中的he wasn't certain說明他可能不來,也可能來,因此使用不完全否定“might not”。 adjust oneself to適應,習慣;lose oneself in沉迷于,全神貫注于;engage sb.in(使)從 考查動詞辨析。 故選A項。They got caught in a traffic jam和otherwise暗示后面應是對過去情況的虛擬,用would have done,故選D。 not…but… 第二段的“… to give squirrels a way to cross the busy road without getting flattened by passing cars.” 由第四段“and that day's coffee break discussion turned into squirrel safety. The group of businessmen cooked up the squirrel bridge idea and formed a committee to ask the blessing of the City Council.” 根據本句的“Squirrels were even seen guiding their young”看出,是教小松鼠如D。 倒數第二段的“Repairs were made and crosspieces were replaced”看出數年之后,這座橋得到了重修。 Peters died in 1984, and a ten-foot wooden squirrel sculpture was placed near the bridge in memory of its builder and his devotion to the project. A。:discussing what to perform in the festival. My classmates had several ideas such as putting on a drama, singing or dancing. As many of us were eager to participate, drama was our final choice. Preparations started right after the discussion. Though most of us were new to drama, we all had the confidence to try. All of actors and actresses began to practice the play we chose. Meanwhile, other classmates were preparing the stage properties like costumes and other decorations. Our monitor even made some lovely hats for the drama.

The big day finally came. Every actor and actress performed at their best, impressing the audience greatly. Cheers and applause rose as we went up to receive the first prize. Our dream came true with the joint effort throughout the whole process.
