　　There is a growing debate about the most effective way for students to study. Traditionally studying alone was thought to be the best way to ensure good exam results. When studying alone you can focus your mind better than when you are with others. You also have the freedom to choose what topic to study and when, as you don’t need file agreement of others. Students that prefer to study alone often say that when they study with their classmates they waste a lot of time because the discussion is often about non-study topics such as television or holidays.

　　In the last few years, however, more and more students have started studying in groups. There are several reasons many students prefer this method. First, they find that studying is more fun as they can share the experience with others rather than staying in their rooms. In groups, they can discuss the subject together and when something is not understood they can ask each other questions. They can use the knowledge of their classmates to help improve their own knowledge. Finally by discussing the topic they are able to both understand and remember it better.

　　The passage mainly describes how some Chinese people celebrate western festivals like Christmas, Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day.The writer does not appreciate the way they celebrate them.

　　Nowadays, some Chinese celebrate western festivals in various ways, but are indifferent about Chinese traditional ones.Some even go as far as doing something crazy that has nothing to do with the festivals, as they don't understand the real origin or meaning of them.

　　I am strongly against this kind of behavior.On western festivals, I just send and receive some text messages.After all, as a Chinese, I think we should attack more importance to our traditional festivals.We should celebrate them by doing some traditional activities in order to carry on Chinese culture.

　　As for western festivals, I suggest we shouldn't get excited about them and just send some good wishes to each other or engage in some little activities.

　　We can know from the passage if we are optimistic we can conquer different kinds of difficulties in life when we meet them, and we will succeed in the end.

　　In my study, I will get discouraged when I fail in an exam.I think I'm hopeless and can't go to my ideal university. Whenever I am in bad mood, my teachers, especially my homeroom teacher, encourage me to be optimistic by saying the proverb “Nothing is difficult if you put your heart into it.” They also tell me to study harder and give me good advice on my study.I'm grateful to them and agree with them.From now on, I'll no longer feel frustrated when I fail in an exam.On the contrary, I will still keep optimistic and study harder because I know failure is the mother of success.As long as I don't lose heart and work hard, I'm sure I'll succeed in the end.

　　In my opinion, we should pay more attention to our health because it's the base of our lives.So important is it that we should not ignore it at all.If we're in poor health, how can we work hard for wealth and enjoy wealth?

　　To be healthy, we mean to be both physically and mentally healthy, the latter of which, I believe, is more valuable.In short, life will never come back once we lose it.Therefore, we should try to protect and respect it with our action—try to be healthy.

Studying alone also allows me to develop independent thinking which is a very important skill I need as I grow older so that I can solve the problems myself without the help of parents and teachers. Our teachers often encourage us to study in groups. I enjoy my friends' company, but in group study, I find we spend far less time studying and more time playing games and having fun.
