I was at the grocery store one evening.I finished shopping, looking for a line to get into.I chose a line where one woman was ready to pay,and another woman behind her who didn't have very much.
As I was standing there waiting for my turn,I noticed the woman in front of me looked as if she had just had some kind of medical treatment. She was wearing a bandana along with a hat.Her face looked as if she was suffering a lot of pain and was tired of everything. She had a backpack to carry her groceries in and she had bought everything that one would need to care for oneself at home. She kept glancing at her groceries and kept counting the money in her-hand.I kept thinking to myself,I wished I had money to pay for her groceries.
To my surprise,as these thoughts were going through my head, the woman ahead of her softly whispered to the woman who didn't look well,“Put your money away, this is on me.”
The woman shook her head a few times and the front woman kept insisting until it happened. There is no way I would have witnessed this if I hadn't been paying attention to myself.I just remember looking up respectfully and saying,“Thank You.” As I walked outside, the woman who didn't feel well was right there, putting her
groceries in her backpack.I gently approached her, introduced myself, told her the direction I was heading in and asked if she would like a ride. She said it wasn't necessary.I told her I had plenty of room in my car and she was more than welcome if she wanted to come along.
She introduced herself and accepted. As she got out of my car she said to me,“God Bless you,” and I said the same.I just keep thinking: though I couldn't help her pay for her groceries,I was_presented_with_ some other way to help her out—and that I could do!

說明文 熱點話題 tension 6分鐘 /5
Tension is growing between Israel's religious and secular populations.Thousands turned out near Jerusalem this week to protest what they view as extremism that could impact religious freedom of choice.Stephanie Freid has the story.
Israel's ultra-Orthodox community accounts for a mere 10% of the country's total population. But that minority has created quite a stir with requests for legislation to segregate women and men and demands that women should dress more modestly. The campaign started with calls
for abolishing women from advertising and led to demands that public transport be segregated.
Yaakov Halperin leader,Israel
Orthodox Party, said,“A kosher woman is first and foremost modest.Sitting in the back of the bus is not humiliating or degrading and she's not worthless. She is simply modest. And that is the hallmark of a true,Jewish woman.”
Last week tension peaked when word of a religious man spitting on an 8-year-old girl accused of dressing immodestly went public.
Security was called in to safeguard other young girls targeted as “immodest” at this school. And this week thousands turned up at this protest rally to defend against what they say is growing religious extremism.Women in particular turned out in droves to voice opposition to what they view as dangerous developments.
A protestor said,“I'm a religious woman but yet I believe you cannot force religion down anybody's throat.I'm here to protest the takeover of a small group of people who are trying to control the behavior of others.”
Leading political figures say the developments indicate a rise in religious fanaticism that should be urgently curtailed to safeguard Israel's democracy.
Tzipi Livni, opposition leader, said,“This isn't only about putting down women. This is about extremists who have come out from under the rug and are trying to force their world view on the rest of us.”
【語篇導讀】 文章通過列舉種種言論和事例給我們呈現出以色列的一幅因種族極端以及民主侵犯而引起的緊張局勢圖。

A.The orthodox community requests for legislation to segregate women and men.
B.The minority demands that women dress more modestly.

D.The public transport should be segregated between women and men.
解析 段意歸納題。本段采用的是“總分”寫法。僅占總人口的10%的極端東正教團體呼吁“legislation to segregate women and men”,而下文闡述的是他們的具體要求。所以正確答案為A項。
答案 A

A.The leader of Israel Orthodox Party.
B.A kosher woman.
C.Sitting in the back of the bus shows a Jewish woman's modesty.
