The freezing Northeast hasn't been a terribly fun place to spend time this winter, so when the chance came for a weekend to Sarasota, Florida, my bags were packed before you could say “sunshine”. I left for the land of warmth and vitamin C (維生素C), thinking of beaches and orange trees. When we touched down to blue skies and warm air, I sent up a small prayer of gratefulness. Swimming pools, wine tasting, and pink sunsets (at normal evening hours, not 4 in the afternoon) filled the weekend, but the best part—particularly to my taste, dulled by months of cold-weather root vegetables—was a 7 a.m. adventure to the Sarasota farmers' market that proved to be more than worth the early wake-up call.
The market, which was founded in 1979, sets up its tents every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine, along North Lemon and State streets. Baskets of perfect red strawberries; the red-painted sides of the Java Dawg coffee truck; and most of all, the tomatoes: amazing, large, soft and round red tomatoes.
Disappointed by many a broken, vine-ripened (蔓上成熟的) promise, I've refused to buy winter tomatoes for years. No matter how attractive they look in the store, once I get them home they're unfailingly dry, hard, and tasteless. But I homed in, with uncertainty, on one particular table at the Brown's Grove Farm's stand, full of fresh and soft tomatoes the size of my fist. These were the real deal—and at that moment, I realized that the best part of Sarasota in winter was going to be eating things that back home in New York I wouldn't be experiencing again for months.
Delighted as I was by the tomatoes in sight, my happiness deepened when I learned that Brown's Grove Farm is one of the suppliers for Jack Dusty, a newly opened restaurant at the Sarasota Ritz Carlton, where—luckily for me—I was planning to have dinner that very night. Without even seeing the menu, I knew I'd be ordering every tomato on it.
1.What did the author think of her winter life in New York?
A. Exciting.
B. Boring.
C. Relaxing.
D. Annoying.
根據文章第一句話中的“The freezing Northeast hasn't been a terribly fun place to spend time this winter”可判斷,作者認為紐約的冬天很無趣。
2.What made the author's getting up early worthwhile?
A. Having a swim.
B. Breathing in fresh air.
C. Walking in the morning sun.
D. Visiting a local farmers' market.
根據第一段最后一句中的“the best part...was a 7 a.m. adventure to the Sarasota farmers' market that proved to be more than worth the early wake-up call”可知,作者早上七點起床去集貿市場,看到各種新鮮的蔬菜水果,所以她認為早起很值得。
3.What can we learn about tomatoes sold in New York in winter?
A. They are soft.
B. They look nice.
C. They taste great.
D. They are juicy.
由第二句話“No matter how attractive they look in the store, once I get them home they're unfailingly dry, hard, and tasteless”可判斷,在紐約市的冬季,西紅柿在商店看起來挺好的,但是拿到家里吃起來卻沒有味道。
4.What was the author going to do that evening?
A. Go to a farm.
B. Check into a hotel.
C. Eat in a restaurant.
D. Buy fresh vegetables.

1.B 根據上文中的“While I was chatting to my grandmother about my busy day”及下文中的“wanting to know if we,too, could smell burning”可判斷,她是打斷了“我”和奶奶之間的談話,故選interrupt。
2.A 根據上文中的“if we,too,could smell burning”可判斷,應該是什么東西燒著了,故選A。
4.A 根據后面的“the stove was on fire and smoke was blowing out of the window. I yelled to...My sister grabbed...to call the fire brigade (消防隊) and, together with the dog,we ran away from the house”可判斷,情況非常危急,故選D。delight“高興”;amazement“驚訝”;disappointment“遺憾”;horror“恐懼”。
get out of“從……出去”;get back to“回到……”;get through“穿過”;get into“進入”。
6.A 根據后面的目的狀語“to call the fire brigade (消防隊)”可知,姐姐一把抓起了電話。
7.B 根據前文的“the stove was on fire and smoke was blowing out of the window”以及后面的“waited for help”可判斷,在這種緊急情況下,等待救援的心情應該是焦急的。

10.D 根據上文的“if we were hurt...She hugged us and was very delighted to see us”可知,此時能使她們感到高興的當然是我們沒有受傷,非常安全。

15.D 根據下文的“We thanked her very much”可知,女士的好心和周到讓“我”感激得說不出話。
