牛津實用英語語法:126 do用做普通動詞
do像have一樣可用做普通動詞，這時它就與do和did連用來構成一般現在時和一般過去時的肯定式和疑問式：
I do not do do you do? dont you do?
he does not do does he do? doesnt he do?
I did not do did you do? didnt you do?
等do可以用在進行式或一般式中：
what are you doing(now)?
Im doing my homework.
(現在)你在做什么?
我在做家庭作業。
Whats he doing tomorrow?
他明天要做什么?(最近將來)
What does he do in the evening?
他平時晚上做什么?(習慣)
Why did you do it?
I did it because I was angry.
你是為什么這么干的?
因為當時我生氣。
How do you do?是經過介紹之后雙方互致的問候語：
Hostess：Mr Day，may I introduce Mr Davis?Mr Davis， Mr Day.
女主人：戴先生，讓我來介紹戴維斯先生。這位是戴維斯先生，這位是戴先生。
兩位先生這時都說：
How do you do?
您好。
原先這是問候對方健康的話，現在僅用為介紹場合中的公式化的問候語。
do的其他用法如：
He doesnt do what hes told.
他不按照告訴他的去做。(不服從命令)
What do you do for a living?
Im an artist.
你是做什么工作的?
我是個畫家。
Hows the new boy doing?
新來的男孩這兩天怎么樣?(進展)
I havent got a torch. Will a candle do(= be suitable/adequate)?
A candle wont do. Im looking for a gas leak.

蠟燭不行。我要查找煤氣泄漏的地方。
Would ￡ 10 do(= be adequate)?
No，it wouldnt. I need ￡ 20.
十英鎊行嗎?(是否足夠)
不夠，我需要20英鎊。
to do with(只限于動詞不定式)有有關系的意思。主要用于 it is/was something/nothing to do with+名詞/代詞/動名詞結構：
Its nothing to do with you.相當于：
It doesnt concern you.
這跟你沒關系。
