本課您將學到:all the while和once in a while句型,need和in need
Compassion(同情心) may be the queen(女王) of American virtues(道德). The story of The Good Samaritan from the Bible describes a man who showed compassion. On his way to a certain city, a Samaritan man found a poor traveler lying on the road. The traveler had been beaten and robbed(搶劫). The kind Samaritan, instead of just passing by, stopped to help this person in need.
Another virtue Americans respect is perseverance(堅持不懈). Remember Aesops fable about the turtle(海龜) and the rabbit that had a race(賽跑)? The rabbit thought he could win easily, so he took a nap(打盹). But the turtle finally won because he did not give up. Another story tells of a little train that had to climb a steep(陡峭的) hill. The hill was so steep that the little train had a hard time trying to get over it. But the train just kept pulling, all the while saying, I think I can, I think I can. At last, the train was over the top of the hill. I thought I could, I thought I could, chugged(發出軋軋聲前進) the happy little train.
Virtues are the foundation(基礎) of American culture-and any culture.
(may be the queen of American virtues)圣經(the Bible)中的好撒瑪利亞人的故事,描述一個流露同情心的人。 (found a poor traveler lying on the road)這旅客被鞭打、搶劫。(had been beaten and robbed)這位仁慈的撒瑪利亞人沒有視而不見,(instead of just passing by)而是停下來幫助這位處于困境中的人。(stopped to help this person in need)
另一個故事談到一個必須爬過陡峭山頭(a steep hill)的小火車,山頭是這么陡,以至于小火車很難爬上去,(to get over it)但是它仍不斷地爬,(the train just kept pulling)并不停地(all the while)說:我想我能做到,(I think I can)我能做到。 (I thought I could)這個快樂的小火車繼續往前去。
(Virtue is the foundation of American culture-and any culture)
all the while 始終;一直。once in a while 偶爾。
all the while表示動作一直延續下去,始終如一。
All the while were drinking pints of the stuff!Thatd be grand!
It snows here once in a while.
The pen needs mending.
She need not come to school at present.
He didnt need to come to school.
He need not have come to school.
A friend in need is a friend indeed.
一開始,我理解in need就是在需要之中,后來才發現,原來in need是個固定短語,意思是窮困之時,困難之境,英文解釋就是:lacking in something; requiring help.
The kind Samaritan, instead of just passing by, stopped to help this person in need.
今天的節目就到這里,希望大家記住了今天的all the while和once in a while句型,和need及in need的用法。
