The Past Indefinite and Past Continuous Tense 一般過去時和過去進行時

　　1. 一般過去時表示在確定的過去時間里所發生的動作或存在的狀態，也可表示在過去一段時間內，經常性或習慣性的動作。When I was a child, I often played football in the street.

　　2. 過去進行時表示過去某時正在進行的狀態或動作。過去進行時的主要用法是描述一件事發生的背景；一個長動作發生的時候，另一個短動作發生。As he was reading the newspaper, Granny fell asleep在他看報紙時，奶奶睡著了。

　　3. 應特別注意兩個時態的區別：They watched the train until it disappeared. (一般過去時表示watch動作已結束) She was writing a book about China last year but I dont know whether she has finished it. 過去進行時不表示write動作已結束) I dont think Jim saw me; he was just staring into space. (過去進行時表示過去某時正在進行的狀態或動作)
