　　如果連接兩個以上的詞語，通常把and放在最后一個詞語前面；為了強調，可在兩者之間分別加上and；把詞語連接起來時，通常把較短的詞語放在前面。

　　我喜歡雞蛋、肉、米飯、面包和牛奶。

　　All that afternoon I jumped and sang and did all kinds of things.

　　（2）表示目的。在口語中，and常用在go，come，try等動詞后連接另一個動詞，表示目的。此時and相當于 to，不必譯出。

　　來見見這家人。

　?。?）表示條件和結果。在祈使句后，常用and連接一個簡單句，表示條件與結果的關系，它們在語法上是并列關系，但在意義上卻是主從關系，也可譯為“如果……就……”。

　　Work hard and you will live happily.＝If you work hard，you will live happily.

　　如果你努力工作，你就會活得愉快。

　?。?）表示承接關系。and用在句首，起承上啟下的作用，可譯為“因此”“那么”“于是”等，也可不譯。

　　（8）表示意義上的增補。and連接兩個分句，第二個分句是第一個分句的補充或進一步說明，可譯為“又”“同時”等。

　　（9）表示遞進與轉折。and表示轉折時，相當于but，但語氣較弱，可譯為“而且”“可是”“不過” 或不譯。

　　我的意思是你吃得太多，而且運動得不夠。

　?。?0）表示強調，加強語氣。用and 連接兩個相同的動詞表示動作的反復；用and連接兩個相同的副詞，表示動作的延續；用and連接同一個形容詞或副詞的比較級，表示程度的逐步加深。
