  第三部分 閱讀理解(共15小題; 每小題2分, 滿分30分)

  請認真閱讀下列短文, 從短文后各題所給的A、B、C、D四個選項中, 選出最佳選項。

  A

(原創)About 17 years ago, I started an adult music class at Austin Community College. I already had a private studio of young talented kids, and one adult student who had played some brass instrument in junior high band, but wanted to learn the violin. Leslie was her name and she was my first adult student.

She came to lessons knowing how to read music, but that was about it. After our first couple of lessons, I thought for sure she wouldn’t last. I saw the long, hard battle in front of her, and many times, I must admit, I thought of suggesting that she choose another instrument, something easier, like piano or guitar. Although she was very anxious, she never let it stop her. As I watched Leslie slowly develop into a good violinist, my own ideas and feelings changed about teaching adult students.

Because I started as a child I had never experienced what my adult student had: the burning desire to learn the violin; the will to continue. Those things I had never owned. For me learning to play was the by-product(副產品)of a childhood activity chosen for me by my mother.

After a few years of lessons, Leslie’s skills were growing and I thought it would be nice for her to play with other people, so I opened an adult music class at Austin Community College. Again, the outcome of that experience I couldn’t have imagined either. Besides being a ton of fun for me,

Leslie met three other women in the class who decided after the term was over to get together once a week to play string quartets(弦樂四重奏). I recently ran into Lola(the oldest member of the group who is now in her 70’s)and she said the group still meets regularly.

  56. Before Leslie came to the writer’s music class, she.

  A. had a private studio of young talented kids

  B. knew about the brass instrument

  C. once played the violin in junior high band

  D. didn’t know how to read music

  57. The writer thought that Leslie.

  A. had a gift for playing the violin

  B. was not fit to learn the violin

  C. played the violin better than others

  D. had no difficulty in learning the violin

  58. Why did the writer open an adult music class at Austin Community College?

  A. Because Leslie needed to play the violin with other people.

  B. Because he thought adults learned the violin faster than children.

  C. Because he found a lot of fun in teaching adults to play the violin.

  D. Because Leslie wanted to form a band with other adult students.

  59. From the passage we can infer.

  A. the writer taught Leslie the violin when she was a child

  B. Leslie learned the violin when she was in junior high school

  C. Leslie once gave up playing the violin in order to learn guitar

  D. the writer admired Leslie for what she did in learning the violin
