所謂讓步倒裝，主要指的是由as或though引出的倒裝形式的讓步狀語(yǔ)從句。這類倒裝句置于句首的可以是形容詞、副詞、動(dòng)詞或名詞等。如：
Successful as [though] he is, he is not proud.
他雖然成功，但不驕傲。
Cold as [though] it was, they went on working.
盡管天氣很冷，他們?nèi)圆煌５毓ぷ鳌?/p>
Much as [though] Id like to, I cant join you for lunch.
盡管我很想，但我不是不能與你們一起吃午飯。
Hard though [as] they tried, they couldnt make her change her mind.
盡管他們做了很大努力，卻沒(méi)法讓她改變主意。
Try as [though] he may, he will not pass the examination.
盡管他可能會(huì)努力，他不會(huì)通過(guò)考試。
Search as [though] they would, they would find nobody in the house.
無(wú)論怎樣搜查，他們?cè)诜孔永锶匀粵](méi)有找到一個(gè)人。
Boy as [though] he was, he behaved like a girl.
他雖是個(gè)男孩，但舉止卻像個(gè)女孩。
注意，這類虛擬倒裝有以下語(yǔ)法特點(diǎn)：
1. 當(dāng)置于句首的名詞是單數(shù)可數(shù)名詞時(shí)，其前不能用冠詞，即使名詞前有形容詞修飾也是如此。如：
Big puzzle as [though] it was, it hadnt got the better of Jim.
雖然是個(gè)大難題，但仍沒(méi)有難倒吉姆。
2. 這類讓步倒裝句式用as或though均可，總的說(shuō)來(lái)，as比though更普通，但是不能用although。
3. 用though時(shí)，也可以不倒裝;而用as時(shí)，必須倒裝。如：
雖然她很美，但不聰明。
正：Pretty though she is, she is not clever.
正：Though she is pretty, she is not clever.
正：Pretty as she is, she is not clever.
誤：As she is pretty, she is not clever.
