destroy, exterminate, extinguish

　　這3個動詞均有消滅之意。

　　destroy :使某人或某物無用或毀滅。

　　Destroy after reading.(閱畢銷毀。)

　　exterminate : 指大量地、成批地殺害、消滅。

　　Some people exterminate garden insects by spraying poison on the plants.(有些人在植物上噴撒毒劑以殺死花園內的昆蟲。)

　　extinguish : 原義指滅火，轉義后暗示生命、希望等像火一樣地消滅、熄滅。

　　His discovery extinguished the achievements of his colleague.(他的發現使他同事的成就黯然失色。)
