　　It is tough to be the only one who says “no” to peer pressure, but you can do it. Paying attention to your own feelings and beliefs about what is right and wrong can help you know the right thing to do.

　　You’ve probably had a parent or teacher advising you to “choose your friends wisely.” Peer pressure is a big reason why they say this. If you choose friends who don’t cut class, smoke cigarettes, or lie to their parents, then you probably won’t do these things either, even if other kids do.

　　If you continue to face peer pressure and you’re finding it difficult to handle, talk to someone you trust. Don’t feel guilty if you’ve made a mistake or two.

　　As Apple tries to maintain its growth and success in China, the world's largest smart phone market is becoming even more critical. Apple's shares(股份) fell sharply as the company's earnings for the holiday quarter through December disappointed investors.

　　The sales of the iPhone, which included both the iPhone 5 and older models, came in at the low end of analysts' expectations, while the company's income plan for the second quarter was below analysts' forecasts, though Apple was known to give conservative (保守的) forecasts.

　　Some analysts have said that for Apple to regain its growth, the company needs a more aggressive strategy for markets, or more specifically for China, where the market for smart phones has been expanding more rapidly than anywhere else. In China, demand is particularly great for inexpensive phones that run on Android(安卓) operating system, sold by many Chinese phone makers as well as Korea's Samsung Electronics Co.

　　But Apple says it's already enjoying strong growth in China. “We saw big growth in iPhones，” Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook said. He said that the company had been quickly expanding its sales channels in China, including the number of Apple stores. “This isn't nearly what we need; we're not even close to that, but we're making great progress，” he said.

　　In China, a big missing piece for Apple is China Mobile Ltd, the biggest local telecom carrier that doesn't yet sell the iPhone. Earlier this month, Mr Cook met China Mobile Chairman Xi Guohua in Beijing and discussed cooperation, stirring hopes that the world's largest mobile carrier may soon start offering the iPhone.

　　Earlier this month, the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple was working on a lowerend iPhone that could launch as early as this year. But one possible challenge for Apple in China is that lowpriced Androidbased phones are getting better in terms of quality. A report from CLSA in late November showed that many smart phones sold at about 1，000 yuan ($160) came with higherresolution screens, better cameras and more powerful processors than phones at that price did a year earlier.

　　BEIJING —With a series of measures being adopted to control price rise, the Chinese government is confident of keeping prices at a reasonable level, Premier Wen Jiabao said Sunday morning, asking people to remain confident.

　　“I believe we can keep prices at a reasonable level through our efforts. As a major leader of the government, I have the responsibility and I have the confidence, too.” He made the remarks while answering a listener’s question during a radio broadcast by China National Radio.

　　Steps taken in the past month, including price controls to curb speculation(抑制投機) and monetary tightening（貨幣緊縮）, had started to produce results, he said.

　　The government plans to build 10 million units of affordable housing in 2011, up from this year’s target of 5.8 million.

　　China will also increase efforts to curb speculation in the housing market, mainly through monetary policies and stricter use of land, Wen said, without giving details.

　　Wen said the country had a good agricultural supply base which gave the government confidence that it could stabilize prices.

　　In a bid to control inflation, the government has also increased the bank reserve requirement ratio six times and lifted interest rate twice this year, he added.

　　A practical English Grammar is intended for intermediate(中級的) and postintermediate students. We hope that more advanced learners and teachers will also find it useful.

　　The book is a comprehensive survey of structures and forms, written in clear modern English and illustrated with numerous examples. Areas of particular difficulty have been given special attention. Differences between conversational usage and strict grammatical forms are shown but the emphasis is on controversial forms.
